A Standard Source of Ultraviolet Radiation for Calibrating Photoelectric Dosage Intensity Meters
نویسندگان
چکیده
The advantages and disadvantages of sources emitting either a continuous or a discontinuous spectrum are considered in connection with the use of such lamps as a standard of ultraviolet radiation. It is shown that because of the high intensity and favorable distribution of the ultraviolet emission lines at 2967 to 3132 A, the quartz mercury-arc lamp is well adapted for standardizing photoelectric ultraviolet dosage intensity meters in absolute units. A description is given of the installation of a commercial lID-volt vertical quartz mercury Uviarc lamp, and of methods of calibrating its ultraviolet output in absolute units. By calibrating photoelectric ultraviolet intensity meters against a laboratory standard, a great reduction is effected in equipment required for field measurements of ultraviolet solar radiation. Introduction: Solar energy is one of the free sources, clean and environmentally friendly energy. Sun is the most important source of natural ultraviolet radiation that has a major role in the life of living beings. Industrial and medical applications of ultraviolet radiation have been clearly proven, like the production of vitamin D or treatment of many diseases, and also har...
متن کاملEstimated ultraviolet exposure levels for a sufficient vitamin D status in northwestern Iran
Introduction: Normal exposure to sunlight results in the production of vitamin D in human body, which happens because of the interaction between ultraviolet radiation and cholesterol in skin. Exposure to sunlight is responsible for 90 percent of vitamin D needed for the body. Studies show that Iran is a country with high percentage of lack of vitamin D (83 percent). Based on pr...
متن کاملThe measurement of solar ultraviolet radiation in Kermanshah city over a one-year period from 2015 to 2016
ABSTRACT Background: Ultraviolet radiation is present in sunlight. If ultraviolet radiation exceeds the limit, it can cause detrimental effects on human health such as skin cancer and cataract. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, the level of solar ultraviolet radiation type A (UVA) were measured using UV LOG HAND HELD in Kermanshah city. The intensity of ultravio...

Introduction: Ultraviolet (UV) radiation affects human organs such as skin, eyes and immune system, as well as animals and plants. The main natural source of UV radiation is the Sun. To study the effects of solar UV radiation there is a need to quantify variations of solar energy received on the earth surface at different intervals. Materials and Methods: To measure UV radiation a broadband fib...
